YES! Some dogs even need dental cleanings twice a year. It is recommended by the American Association of Veterinary Dentists that dogs and cats start having yearly dental cleanings at one year of age. That “dog breath” we all complain about is not normal. It is a build-up of bacteria in the mouth that causes painful destruction of the teeth and mouth and can affect our pet’s hearts and livers. Even if we were perfect at brushing our pet’s teeth twice daily (which few of us are), there would still be a need for a professional cleaning yearly. Humans brush regularly and are still recommended to have cleanings every 6 months –why would we not do the same for our pets?

Booking with us is easy! New and existing clients can use the “Book an Appointment Now” button on our website to schedule online at any time. Returning clients can also book directly through their patient portal for quick, convenient scheduling. And of course, if you’d rather talk to a real person, you’re always welcome to give the hospital a call during business hours and we’ll get you set up.

Call us. We will do our best to accommodate you on the same day. In the event we are unavailable, we will work with you to find a suitable option to get your pet seen quickly. The sooner medical issues are dealt with, the better the outcome will be for chronic conditions.

At Urban Paw, we like to take the hassle out of caring for your pet. One way we do that is to offer certain services as in-hospital appointments. This means you leave your baby in our care for anywhere from 1 hour to all day, depending on what services are needed. This allows us to provide the highest level of care, taking breaks when your pet needs a break, running lab work, and creating a personalized treatment plan based on results all before you take your pet home. Comprehensive healthcare can be provided to your pet while you are not stuck waiting in an exam room. It’s a win-win!

The vaccine schedule for your pet will be based on a physical exam, complete history, and exposure risk analysis from a licensed veterinarian. Every pet is a bit different, and your doctor will be able to partner with you to decide what’s best. In general, flea/tick and heartworm preventions are recommended for all dogs and cats unless there is a specific medical condition that makes it unsafe.

Whether it’s your first visit or not we want it to be as convenient, efficient, and stress-free as possible — for you and your pet. When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by our wonderful client service coordinators, your pet will be weighed and then you’ll head straight into one of our comfortable rooms, complete with cozy dog beds to help pets feel right at home. Our rooms are designed to feel like just another room in your house, easing stress and helping your pet feel more relaxed. For our feline friends, we also offer cat rooms tailored to their unique comfort needs. From there, our veterinary team will come to you for a thorough doctor’s exam, explanation of the proposed treatment plan and check out process all in the room.
