Our passion is for animals, and our primary function in the community is to offer whole-pet, life-long care for dogs and cats. By providing a wide range of services, including specialized rehabilitation and acupuncture, we can assess and care for your pet at any life stage. At Urban Paw, we combine preventive care, surgery and rehabilitation therapy to create a single place where your pet can be treated as a whole. We are invested in our community and do our part to give back through partnerships with local small businesses and non-profit volunteer work. We are also doing our part to be a good steward of the environment in how we build, stock, and maintain our hospital.

Dr. Dana Novara | DVM, CCRT, Fear Free Certified

Owner, Urban Paw Veterinary Health and Rehabilitation

After graduating from the University of Minnesota in 2008, Dr. Novara spent time in small animal practice before moving into veterinary leadership roles in corporate medicine focused on mentoring and quality across over 180 hospitals in the SouthWest United States.

Taking what she learned from her previous career, Dr. Novara decided to open her own practice, Urban Paw, in Denver, CO. This has allowed her to give back to her profession and community on a deeper level by offering specialized services and local community advocacy. Dr. Novara is an active member of AVMA and CVMA as well as a member of the public speaking pool for the Women Veterinary Leadership Development Initiative (WVLDI). She also serves on the board of a local non-profit, DCIS Foundation, that raises money for children to take educational trips domestically and abroad.

Dr. Novara lives in the neighborhood where she works with her husband, 3 human children, 2 dogs, 5 rats and 3 frogs.

Dr. Steven Dick

Veterinarian

Following graduation from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in 2003, Dr. Dick spent four years on Active Duty in the US Army Veterinary Corps with stations in North Carolina and Washington and a 1-year deployment to Kuwait. Following his discharge from military service, he joined Banfield Pet Hospitals, where he worked in several clinical and leadership roles in Minnesota and Colorado for over 14 years.

Dr. Dick is excited about the move to Urban Paw and the chance to see veterinary medicine from a new perspective. He is passionate about providing exceptional client experience as a means to building trust, so pets get the care they need and deserve.

Dr. Dick is a member of both the AVMA and CVMA, currently serving as the President-Elect for the CVMA Executive Board.

Dr. Dick resides in Littleton with his wife Jennifer, son Ephram, dog Finn and a red-eared slider turtle named Tiny Tim. He enjoys tennis, mountain biking, and skiing in his free time.

Dr. Stacie Fitzpatrick

Veterinarian

Dr Stacie Fitzpatrick obtained her veterinary degree from Ohio State University in 2007. After practicing equine medicine for 3 years, she made the leap to companion animal care in 2010, when she joined Banfield Pet Hospital as an associate veterinarian. She has held multiple leadership roles at Banfield including Chief of Staff, Area Chief of Staff, Director of Veterinary Medicine and Field Director. Dr Fitzpatrick is thrilled to be joining Urban Paw and serving patients and clients again!
Stacie is passionate about veterinary wellbeing and high-quality continuing education, and has served as the CVMA Education Chair for the past 4 years. She is excited to devote additional time serving the Chapter 6 CVMA veterinary community as the President in 2024.

Stacie loves to spend time with her husband and two boys. They enjoy camping, skiing and traveling. Stacie loves to bake, read and poke around in her garden with her 8 year-old Terrier mix who guards the family mightily with all of his 26 pounds.

Holly

Registered Veterinary Technician

Holly is a Colorado native who earned her Associates of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology from Colorado Mountain College in 2023. As a Registered Veterinary Technician and Fear Free Certified Professional, Holly prioritizes patient care and low stress animal handling. She loves her job and is so excited to be part of the Urban Paw Team!

During her free time, Holly likes to go to concerts, explore the Denver restaurant scene, and wind down with a good book.

Beckie

Registered Veterinary Technician,
Rehab Trained

After moving to Colorado 6 years ago and a lengthy career in gym management she decided to pursue her love of animals in the veterinary medicine field. Beckie is passionate and dedicated to gold star patient care and loves being able to make a difference in not only the patient’s but also the client’s lives. She believes firmly in the power of a friendly smile or a few kind words. During her free time you can catch Beckie either at a concert or festival or just sitting by the river in golden with her best friend-Rue dog! She is SO excited to be a part of such a wonderful & thoughtful practice!

Maleah

Veterinary Assistant

Originally from Arizona, Maleah moved to Colorado in 2019 and started working in veterinary medicine in 2021. Currently, she is obtaining her veterinary technician license through an apprentiship program at the Community College of Denver while gaining hands on experience at Urban Paw. Maleah is passionate about making a difference and being a voice for animals. She is committed to providing compassionate, high-quality care to every patient. During her free time, Maleah enjoys spending time outdoors, especially on a lake with her toddler Rylan!

Megan M.

Office Lead

Megan has worked with animals in many different capacities throughout her life from veterinary medicine to equestrian training and farm work. From dogs and cats to small exotics and livestock, Megan is passionate about learning the health needs of different species and breeds. She graduated with her B.S. in Business and Marketing in 2016 while living in Florida. Megan moved to Denver from Florida in 2020 and hasn’t looked back since.

When she’s not at Urban Paw caring for your fur babies, she enjoys cuddling with her Savannah cat, exploring the Rocky Mountains, hiking, camping, geocaching, and catching some live music.

Jada

Customer Services Representative

Jada was born and raised in Colorado Springs and moved to Denver with her two cats in February 2023. She has been working in the veterinary field as a client service representative for around 3 years now. Taking care of clients and their pets is her specialty, from answering any questions they have to getting their pets checked into the clinic. With loving pets all her life, she will be starting school next year to become a marine biologist and handle the wilder side of animals. When she’s not working, she’s resting at home with her cats (one being a wild tripod).

Leslie

Registered Veterinary Technician

Leslie is a Colorado native. She started her journey with vet med in 2016 when she graduated from Pima Medical Institute as a CVA. Leslie has mainly focused her skills in general practice and more recently has explored emergency care. She was able to earn her title as RVT in 2023. Leslie loves her job and being able to make a difference in pets’ lives through preventative care, wellness, and vaccine protocols. She absolutely loves the client interaction and education that comes with it. Leslie thinks it’s a privilege to be a voice for those who cannot speak.

Leslie has 2 fur babies of her own, a kitty named Benny and a pug mix named Stitch. She is beyond excited to be a part of Urban Paw and work alongside all the great doctors and support staff. In her free time, she really enjoys going to concerts, spending quality time with family, or completing a nice hike.

Emily

Veterinary Assistant / Rehab Trained

Emily is a Colorado native who grew up in the veterinary community. Her mom is a vet in Johnstown, CO; Emily has worked for her since she was 16. She moved to the Denver-Metro area in 2025 after graduating from CSU with a degree in Biological Sciences. She has 2 fur babies, Jeremy (cat) and Zeus (Golden Retriever), and spends all of her free time taking them to explore the mountains.

Kelly

Provisional Veterinary Technician

Kelly is a veterinary technician who is passionate about providing compassionate, Fear Free-focused care for every patient she meets. Originally from Charleston, South Carolina, she loves building meaningful connections with both pets and their owners and helping make veterinary visits less stressful and more positive for everyone involved. Creating a calm, safe environment for animals is one of the most rewarding parts of her work.

Outside of the clinic, Kelly enjoys expressing her creativity and energy through music and movement. She’s a big fan of K-pop — especially BTS — and loves going to concerts and taking dance classes whenever she can. When she’s not at the hospital, you can usually find her dancing, listening to music, or spending time with her cat Chijeu.

Aura

Customer Service Representative/VA

Aura has been working with dogs and cats since she graduated from PIMA in 2021. She has a love for any and all furry little animals. Aura’s main priority is to make sure your pets are taken care of and that their voice is always heard. In her free time, she likes to do all outdoor things and see the world with her fiancé Isaac, 2 heeler pups Bacon & Biscuit, and her 2 little black cats Brat and Bugga.

FAQs

Do you perform surgery on-site?

Yes. Acupuncture treatments are vital in improving the health of pets, making routine visits beneficial. We perform routine procedures like spays and neuters. We also can provide other general surgeries that may be needed in illness. Some examples may be foreign body surgeries, cystotomies, and pyometra surgery. Surgical needs vary in severity based on the pet’s condition at the time of presentation, and it may be recommended that a certain case be referred to a specialist.

Does my pet need yearly dental cleanings?

YES! Some dogs even need dental cleanings twice a year. It is recommended by the American Association of Veterinary Dentists that dogs and cats start having yearly dental cleanings at one year of age. That “dog breath” we all complain about is not normal. It is a build-up of bacteria in the mouth that causes painful destruction of the teeth and mouth and can affect our pet’s hearts and livers. Even if we were perfect at brushing our pet’s teeth twice daily (which few of us are), there would still be a need for a professional cleaning yearly. Humans brush regularly and are still recommended to have cleanings every 6 months –why would we not do the same for our pets?

How do I make an appointment?

Making an appointment is streamlined and easy. Check out the home page to easily book an appointment online or the ‘Appointment’ button in the navigation bar. You can also use our mobile site to book or, of course, you can call us! To book an initial rehabilitation assessment, you first need a general health appointment.

What do I do if my pet is sick?

Call us. We will do our best to accommodate you on the same day. In the event we are unavailable, we will work with you to find a suitable option to get your pet seen quickly. The sooner medical issues are dealt with, the better the outcome will be for chronic conditions. The sooner illness is dealt with, the better the outcome will be. We do also offer telehealth options. This is a way to at least consult with a vet immediately to determine the need for an in-person visit.

What is an in-hospital appointment?

At Urban Paw, we like to take the hassle out of caring for your pet. Once we have an established relationship with you and your pet, we move to in-hospital appointments. This means you leave your baby in our care for anywhere from 1 hour to all day, depending on what services are needed. This allows us to provide the highest level of care, taking breaks when your pet needs a break, running lab work, and creating a personalized treatment plan based on results all before you take your pet home. Comprehensive healthcare can be provided to your pet while you are not stuck waiting in an exam room. It’s a win-win!

What vaccines and preventatives does my pet need?

The vaccine schedule for your pet will be based on a physical exam, complete history, and exposure risk analysis from a licensed veterinarian. Every pet is a bit different, and your doctor will be able to partner with you to decide what’s best. In general, flea/tick and heartworm preventions are recommended for all dogs and cats unless there is a specific medical condition that makes it unsafe.

What will my first visit look like?

Like everything else at Urban Paw, we want your first visit to be streamlined and enjoyable. Please fill out our online history form prior to your visit and stop at our check-in kiosk in the lobby when you arrive to check yourself in. Standard COVID-19 questions will be asked first, and your temperature will be taken to ensure everyone’s safety.
